Putting an end to the rumor mills, Google finally unveiled the new Nexus devices for 2016: The LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P. Both the devices would run on the latest and greatest version of the Android, the Android Marshmallow 6.0. They also support TDD and FDD 4G LTE in India. Almost every single details about the devices were leaked already and last night’s event was just the confirmation of those leaks. I own and love the Nexus 5 but the Nexus 6 was a huge disappointment for me. But this time around there are two choices and lets see which one would make a better companion.
The Nexus 6P comes from Huawei and its metal unibody design looks premium. The 6P has a 5.7 inch QHD display. It is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor as the OnePlus 2. It has 3 GB of RAM and comes in 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB internal storage variants. It has a massive 3450 mAh battery which supports rapid charging. It has the USB-C type port for charging and data transfer. At the back the 6P has a 12 MP camera with dual LED flash and laser auto focus. Google mentioned that the sensor has a pixel size of 1.55 micro meter, which means that it can perform well under low light conditions. Also the new fingerprint sensor at the back can unlock the mobile with a rapid response time of less that 3000 milli seconds. The rear camera is mounted on a slight hump at the back. But otherwise the design is slick and premium. It would be available in three colors: aluminium, graphite and frost. Reports of limited edition Gold color Nexus 6P in Japan has also come to the light. Though the 6P appears to be a successor for the Nexus 6, it is priced lesser than the 6 and looks much more premium.
The Nexus 5X would be the thirds Nexus device made by LG. It is almost the size of the Nexus 5 but has a slightly kiddish design with rounded edges and plastic body. The 5.2 inch display supports Full HD resolution. The processor in it is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, but the RAM is just 2GB. The 5X lacks expandable storage and comes in 16 GB and 32 GB variants. It is powered by 2700 mAh battery. Like the Nexus 6P it has USB C port and a fingerprint scanner. The rear camera specifications is also identical, but the front camera is a 5 MP camera. Both the devices are single SIM devices and support Nano SIM card. Neither of the mobiles have wireless charging or optical image stabilization. In the box, both the mobiles comes with USB Type-C to USB Standard-A plug cable adapter, incase you don’t have a USB C cable in hand.
The Nexus 6P would start at a price of Rs 40000 and the Nexus 5X would start at Rs 31900. While the 5X is slighly expensive compared to the 5 at launch, the 6P is cheaper than the 6 at launch.

The Nexus 6P packs in a lot of punch compared to the 5X. The 2 GB RAM in the 5X is a disappointment. The 6P has a bigger and brighter display and overall it looks much more premium. It could easily be called the most stylish Nexus device so far. I am not sure if the camera performance differ, but the large pixel size is definitely a promising feature. The 6P has the infamous 810 processor which is known for its heating issues. But if I were to choose between these two devices, I would pick the Nexus 6P for its display, dual front facing speakers, camera, battery, specs and pricing. Also the 64 GB would be a good choice.
