I am not sure if the OnePlus 3 would set some sort of record in sales, but it is by far the most leaked mobile till date. OnePlus is a company which makes its bread and butter out of hype. They are experts in creating a vortex of hype around any of their flagship launches. The OnePlus One was a true success story for OnePlus and that device managed to change the face of mobile market in the world. OnePlus 2 was a disaster and the reason could be many. OnePlus desperately needs to stand up and face the market with a successful flagship device. So it managed to pull up all its strength and the result is the OnePlus 3. Now will that pay off to be a success story? That is something we will know soon.
But the hype with OnePlus managed to create for OnePlus 3 is phenomenal. There were leaks about the specifications and design from all over the globe. I have a hunch that these leaks were controlled and manipulated leaks to create hype. OnePlus has sent out the devices to selected media and bloggers a few weeks earlier, placing them under strict embargo. OnePlus announced this very weird auction campaign with Droom.in. Just like last year, this year too, OnePlus launched their flagship device via a virtual reality recorded video. But this time, it was giving away good quality VR headsets from AntVR. The VR headsets were sold on Amazon via flash sales. But Amazon used this opportunity to promote their app downloads, by making this sale available only on the app. The flash sales on App was again questionable and we are not sure, if they really sold any. Following that fiasco, OnePlus announced that it will give away the headsets via the Uber app. Yet another promotion and yet another opportunity to en-cash on the popularity.

Having worked in print media, I know how much care the media houses take when it comes to guarding news. I have never heard about any publisher to print advertisements by mistake. I know they make mistakes in ads, but they never make mistakes in the date when it is supposed to be printed. Reportedly, Hindustan Times today accidentally released the ad for OnePlus 3 in their paper with mistakes on specifications. The mistakes on swapping the rear and front camera is a clever ploy to keep readers thinking about the authenticity of the ad. But yes, the leak sure made the online social media go crazy. Finally a few house before the launch Amazon send out a mail with price and specifications. In total, questionable marketing techniques by OnePlus and in the end, the did manage to get the news across.
There is nothing new I can tell you about the OnePlus, apart from what you know already by now. Yet it is my duty to share the information. The OnePlus 3 6 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM variants will be available in India, exclusively from Amazon India, for a price for Rs 27999. It has a 16 MP REAR camera and a 8 MP from camera. The rear sensor is Sony IMX298 with 1/2.8″ pixel size and 1.12 μm unit size. It has optical and electronic image stabilization and capable of 4k videos at 30 fps. The slow motion videos can be captured at 720p upti 120 fps. The focusing mechanism is PDAF and the lens aperture is f/2.0. The front facing camera sensor is again from Sony. Its the IMX179 with fixed focus and lens aperture of f/2.0. OnePlus 3 does not support RAW formats out of the box. It is a but disappointing to see PDAF, instead of Hybrid of advanced laser focusing systems. But lets wait for the device to make a judgement call.
The device is made of metal and OnePlus has opted out of its signature sandstone finish. This time it is a unibody design and the styleswap panels would be history. But OnePlus has made some interesting back panels for the OnePlus 3. It has a very thin design at just 7.35 mm and it weighs 158 grams. The screen is Amoled, but Full HD. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The speaker is at the bottom. It has dual mic with noise cancelling.
OnePlus 3 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU and 6GB LPDDR4 RAM. It runs on Oxygen OS, based on Android Marshmallow 6.1. I am not a big fan of Oxygen OS. But yet to experience the improvements which they have made on the latest update. The device is powered by 3000 mAh battery and it can fast charge with Opo’s proprietary Dash Charge technology. It has NFC, fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 4.2 and a few other connectivity features.
This time OnePlus has left no stones unturned. They have made their best efforts to come up with their flagship of 2016. Though I have a positive feeling about it, let’s wait and see how the device turns out to be. OnePlus 3 will be available from 15th June, 12:30 AM on Amazon.in.
